Extinguishers, blankets and hose reels

Fire extinguisher inspection software built around AS 1851 Section 10.

Portable extinguishers are the highest-volume assets a fire business services: hundreds per site, a six-monthly cycle, a yearly service, a five-yearly hydrostatic test, and a tag on every one that has to agree with the record. Maintenance Partners gives every extinguisher, fire blanket and hose reel its own record, opens the right AS 1851 form when the technician scans the tag, keeps the five-yearly test date on the asset, and turns a failed item into a defect and a quote without re-keying. Included at $150 per user per month ex GST.

The cycles

Every AS 1851 extinguisher interval, on the asset

AS 1851-2012 has no monthly extinguisher schedule. Routine service runs six-monthly and yearly, with a five-yearly hydrostatic pressure test and recharge, and a recharge after any use. Each extinguisher carries that programme on its own record, so the next due date is computed, not remembered.

Six-monthly routine service

Accessible and in its assigned location, anti-tamper device intact, exterior clean and instructions legible, no damage or corrosion, hose and nozzle sound, pressure indicator in range, weight checked, tag or label attached and marked. The form holds every item in the standard's table so nothing is skipped.

Yearly service

The six-monthly items plus the yearly checks, on the same asset record, so the technician sees the last six-monthly result while doing the yearly one.

Five-yearly hydrostatic test and recharge

The pressure test, discharge and recharge interval sits on the asset with the date it was last done, so a five-yearly falling due is a visit the schedule generates, not a surprise an auditor finds. A three-yearly service applies to certain extinguisher types and environments, and the asset carries it where it applies.

Recharge after any use

A discharged extinguisher, even partly, is recharged and the service recorded on the asset, with the new tag mark, so the cycle continues from the right date.

Same run

Blankets and hose reels travel with the extinguishers

The technician who services the extinguishers services the fire blankets and hose reels on the same visit. They sit on the same register, on the same schedule, in the same app.

Fire blankets, six-monthly only

AS 1851 sets a six-monthly inspection for fire blankets and no yearly service. The blanket's record carries exactly that, so the schedule does not invent a yearly visit the standard never asked for. How the schedule is computed.

Hose reels, six-monthly and yearly

Six-monthly condition and operation checks, and a yearly service with the flow test at the nozzle measured against the commissioning figure. The reading is captured on the asset and compared with the previous one. There is no five-yearly hose reel test in the 2012 edition, and the asset does not carry one.

The tag and the record agree

The tag on the cylinder is the standard's permitted record, and the software is the logbook behind it. Where tags are the field record the standard also wants a summary record for the responsible entity, and that is a report from the register, not a second job.

Scan a tag the register has never seen

The asset is created on the spot with its type, size and location, and its AS 1851 programme starts from that day. The fire asset register.

From the scan to the invoice

What a failed extinguisher turns into

A defect on the asset

A failed item becomes a defect with its photo, class and recommendation while the technician is standing in front of the cylinder. Critical defects are flagged so the office knows before the technician leaves the site. Defect classes explained.

A quote the client approves from an email

Replacement, recharge or hydrostatic test quoted straight from the inspection record, approved from the emailed link, then a work order and an invoice reconciled to Xero, MYOB or QuickBooks Online. Defect quoting, end to end.

Offline in the plant room

The field app carries a full replica of the technician's work on the handset, so a basement with no signal is a normal working day and three hundred extinguishers sync when the truck finds coverage. The MP Connect field app.

Evidence for the annual statement

Every six-monthly and yearly result feeds the annual fire safety statement or the state equivalent from the live record, with open defects called out before the owner signs. The compliance engine.

Questions

Extinguisher inspection questions, answered.

How often do fire extinguishers need to be inspected in Australia?

Under AS 1851-2012, portable fire extinguishers receive a six-monthly routine service, a yearly service, and a five-yearly hydrostatic pressure test with discharge and recharge, plus a recharge after any use. There is no monthly schedule in the standard; a three-yearly service applies to certain types and environments. Fire blankets are six-monthly only, and hose reels are six-monthly and yearly. The full guide to extinguisher testing intervals.

Does the software replace the tag on the extinguisher?

No. The tag or label on the cylinder is a record the standard permits and expects, and technicians keep marking it. Maintenance Partners is the logbook behind the tag: the same service recorded on the asset with the technician, date, result and photo, and the summary record the standard asks for produced from the register.

How does the app know which form to open?

Scan the extinguisher's barcode or QR tag and the app opens the exact AS 1851 form for its type, size and the cycle that is due: six-monthly, yearly or five-yearly. Forms are maintained centrally and reach every device on its next sync.

Can it handle a site with several hundred extinguishers offline?

Yes. The field app carries a full replica of the technician's work on the device, so every extinguisher on the site is on the handset before the visit and every result syncs when signal returns.

What does fire extinguisher inspection software cost?

Maintenance Partners is $150 per user per month ex GST ($165 inc GST) with every module included and unlimited assets, sites and clients. No per-asset fees, no tiers, no lock-in.
